Campaign Finance & Lobbying
All funds that are raised and spent by labor unions and other entities, political action committees (PACs), and separate segregated funds (SSFs) to promote candidates, parties, policies, referendums, and initiatives are subject to ever-changing guidelines and reporting requirements by various state and federal laws and agencies.
Our attorneys work with unions and nonprofit organizations to assess whether their political programs comply with state and federal election laws. We work with organizations to ensure their campaign finance programs maximize tax benefits, while remaining as simple as possible to maintain. Many of our clients also engage in lobbying, and we work with them to comply with IRS rules regarding lobbying as well as state-level regulation by the Washington State Public Disclosure Commission.
We focus on preventative advice to help ensure that our clients understand their compliance obligations in this complex area of the law, so they can advocate and engage in the political arena with confidence.
We also regularly represent clients in enforcement proceedings before the Washington State Public Disclosure Commission, as well as the Seattle Ethics & Election Commission.
Our firm can provide the advice and representation services needed to help guide your organization through the complex world of lobbying and campaign finance.
